E. M. Forster, the Buckinghams and Bloomsbury: Exhibition and Launch Event

Dear IEMFS Members,

We are delighted to share news of two upcoming events celebrating Forster’s friendship with the Buckingham family and his connections with Bloomsbury.

First, on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, from 6 to 7 pm, there will be an exhibition launch featuring two short talks by members of our Society, Professor Claire Monk and Professor Daniel Monk, followed by a Q&A session. The speakers will explore Forster’s personal relationships, his understanding of friendship and family, and his connections with Bloomsbury’s social history. All are welcome, and admission is free!

Then, from 1 October to mid-December 2026, the exhibition entitled E. M. Forster’s Legacy of Connection: Unseen Memorabilia will offer a fascinating glimpse into Forster’s private life and the world of working-class Bloomsbury. Featuring previously unseen memorabilia, personal recollections, photographs and paintings by Jim Buckingham, the exhibition promises to shed new light on Forster’s life and relationships.

Those of you who will be in London during this period are warmly invited to visit the exhibition. And do share the news with others who might be interested!

Both events will take place at Camden Archives and Local Studies Centre, Holborn Library, Theobalds Road, London WC1X 8NW. More information about the exhibition can be found here.
